I'll miss my good friend, Pete Bostwick

All

My long-time friend, Ted Ward, had a close and lasting relationship with the recently departed, Pete Bostwick - borne from their shared mutual passion of squash and ice hockey. It was a friendship that began when Ted lived on the east coast prior to his moving to the Bay Area. The following is a heartfelt letter to Bostwick's son expressing his condolences.

Pete:

I knew he was failing but did not know about your mom who I always considered such a lovely, warm lady.

There is so much I could say about your dad. He was a special friend that I got to know in the 1960s on St. Knicks and more so when we knocked around on the age group squash circuit in odd locations where he and I would just hang out between matches. He usually won his group - I got to finals once or twice. What I loved so much about him was how dearly he loved being and laughing with his friends, with his guys.

And the memory that stands out the most was 100th Anniversary of St. Nicks dinner at RTC - I’m sure you were there. The noise level on 2nd floor was the loudest the club had ever heard I’m sure as guys poured in from everywhere to reunite. There were kind of age group pods with hugs and cheers. And then when he got up to speak in dining room a slow applause began and built into the entire room standing and cheering. I had tears in my eyes. He was laughing. Everyone was acknowledging the priceless fun and friendships that your dad had provided for so many hockey players over so many years. So special and unique, and for him it was just fun, the way things should be. I will also miss our long phone conversations over the years also that stopped in last 2-3 years. We would laugh and cover all our stories from SPS forward - I loved them.

I know he was suffering in last years. At our age I feel like we are all walking on ever thinning ice heading to open water, and pals are falling through here and there. So be it.

He was a great friend, a hero, a special memory.  My condolences to you, your sisters and all your family about two wonderful people that I was fortunate to have had in my life.

Best to you,

Ted
