1975 Davis Double Century

All

I’ll wager that at some point, that a good many cyclists are struck with the desire of riding a Century. (100 miles in one day).

Well, back in my youth, I also entertained this notion.

After a routine visit to the shop where I bought my Peugeot PR-10, I noticed a posted announcement with attached entries to ride in the Davis Double Century (200 miles in one day!)

Why not?  Being a foolhardy young man full of hubris, this was an adventure that I couldn’t pass up.

I asked two of my Stebbins Hall buddies to join me - Mark Rosen and Tom Raasch. Mark invited his brother, Steve, to join us.

Was I ready for 12 hours in the saddle?

Finishing 12 hours later in the dark of night, I had my answer.

The Markleevillle Death Ride….

You would think that after riding the “Davis Double” that I was disabused by the idea from riding in another long-distant ride.

Nope.
