With the advent of NorCal in 1968, squash was no longer singularly defined by each club; it was becoming an organized synergistic organization.
Cal's squash coach Dick Crawford was it’s first president.
A representative board was installed. Skill-level leagues were formed. A seasonal schedule of invitational tournaments hosted by the NorCal member clubs was offered that culminated with the NorCal Championships and Awards dinner at Dante Benedetti's New Pisa Restaurant in North Beach.
Now that squash had a common voice and a collective energy, the region’s players began to pay attention to the rumblings of potential growth and the University Club aspired to be the leading player. Not just by becoming the hub in the region, the Club wanted to call attention to itself by having aspirations to be a major player in North America.
