The passing of James Prigoff - from his family

The passing of James Prigoff - from his family

Dear Friends,

It's with great sadness that we write to inform you that Jim Prigoff passed away on April 21, 2021.  He truly lived a long and storied life - filled with family, friends, and adventure. We are reaching out as we know he valued your friendship and we are using his email so this doesn't get filed in spam. We are so grateful for the joy you brought him and we hope you keep his memory alive and well.

We've created this website (https://www.forevermissed.com/james-prigoff/about) and would love for you to visit and leave a memory you have of Jim or a photo.

As you know Jim is best known for his work as a photojournalist. He documented archeological sites, natural wonders, political events, and public art. For close to 50 years, he photographed murals world-wide and became known as an Urban Legend as he tracked the history of Graffiti. His photos and writings were seen and heard around the world – the Smithsonian, the LA MOCA, the Tate in London to name a few – and his co-authored book, Spraycan Art, has been called the New Testament of Graffiti.

Jim’s professional accomplishments, while extraordinary, pale in comparison to the love we feel towards him. We are eternally grateful for the 93 wonderful years Jim had and the time we got to spend with him.

Unfortunately, COVID restrictions have forced us to limit the service to immediate family only, but we encourage you to reflect on the time you spent with Jim. His joy, his passion for social justice, even his funky safari hat and vest – if we all embody a little of what he represented, the world will be a better place.

Goodbye, adios, see you later, until next time – or as Jim used to always say…

Paz,

Jim’s Family
